Harrods department store gives misleading information on fur sourcing

Humane Society International / UK recently revealed the many misleading claims made by sales staff at Harrods department stores about where and how their fur came from.

Staff have told HSI undercover customers that the fur used in Harrods brands is humane and ethical. They falsely claimed that foxes were not kept in a cage, going so far as to tell customers that the foxes have enough room to play. Undercover shoppers also learned that the animals were slaughtered before being skinned, when in reality they were electrocuted without anesthesia. Contrary to what Harrods department store wants customers to believe, furry foxes are horribly abused and abused all their lives.

These kinds of claims about ethical and human fur are incredibly harmful and irresponsible. This is a deceptive marketing program intended to allay the fears of buyers of supporting a cruel industry.

Claire Bass, Executive Director of Humane Society International / UK, explained: “It is no surprise that the staff at Harrods do not want to describe the grim reality of animal life on fur farms as it would leave surely their horrified customers. Bass continued: “The week before I spoke to five Harrods vendors who all creatively masked the cruelty of the fur trade, I visited several supposedly ‘highly social’ Finnish fur farms and got in touch with me. found face to face with the abject misery and suffering of thousands of foxes locked in sterile one-square-meter battery cages all their lives. By Christmas, they will all have been killed by anal electrocution, and the luxurious fur trade PR lies will market their lifeless fur to consumers. “

People are more and more aware of the cruelty behind the fur industry and want to stop supporting these industries. However, these kinds of lies make people believe that there are ethical animal products. Additionally, even if furry animals were treated as staff insisted, they would still end up being killed for their fur, which is inherently inhumane. The only cruelty-free fur is faux fur.
