This is how you maximize the space and fill it with sound and light [Setups]

Not everyone has a huge office with enough space for their computer setup and lots of associated equipment. But with a few smart moves, anyone can make the most of a small desk in a cramped space.

The configuration presented today is a good example. It takes advantage of a standing desk, arm-mounted monitors, and ample wall storage to maximize limited space.

And the audio equipment and lighting don’t disappoint either.

MacBook Pro M1 configuration maximizes space in tight spaces with a standing workstation and wall storage

Redditor BeatKnicker (“BN”) featured the setup in a post titled “MacTop + 34-inch ultra-wide standing configuration.” Everything is designed for standing or sitting, with an adjustable desk and display units on movable arms.

BN is running a 16-inch M1 MacBook Pro – it’s unclear if it contains the M1 Pro or M1 Max chip – as well as a Nintendo Switch for serious gaming.

Well-assembled displays and standing desk

The MacBook sits on a stand well away from the desk, making it a nice secondary display to the primary external display – a 34-inch curved Philips 4K ultrawide display mounted on an arm. It’s a mark we don’t often see in setups, at least when it comes to monitors, but it looks nice.

The Philips 34E2CUAE offers 3440 x 1440 pixel resolution, 1ms response time for smooth gaming, and flicker-free technology to ease eye strain. And a built-in USB-C hub makes it easy to connect and power a laptop or other device.

And the arm frees up space and makes the positioning of the large screen highly adjustable.

“The best part about monitor arms (aside from being able to make on-the-fly positioning adjustments) frees up the desk to make it a desk,” BN said. “Totally worth the (minor) investment. These were [about] $80. »

A commenter asked if BN was still using the MacBook screen even with the ultra-side display, and if his neck hurt “moving it to the same size?”

“Always use the MB screen, yes,” BN replied. “Especially for Spotify, Telegram, WhatsApp, etc. Namely things I don’t have to check often… so no neck issues.”

For input devices, BN uses a Magic Trackpad. There is not a mouse to be seen. In addition to the trackpad, it has Keychron’s custom Q1 mechanical keyboard with the manufacturer’s OEM Dye-Sub PBT keyset in rainbow colors.

Keep it clean with wall hooks and a pegboard for storage

In addition to maximizing space with stands for his laptop and external monitor, BN takes advantage of wall space. It has cables and other gear sitting on adhesive plastic wall hooks.

And it has several other items mounted on a pegboard to the right. This eliminates the hardware but keeps it handy.

And it doesn’t hurt to mount a large shelf on the wall above the screens, like BN did.

Excellent audio and lighting equipment

Although we chose to focus on the great use of the limited space of this setup in this article, we could have focused on the wide range of audio equipment. It’s a nice selection of good choices, if you’re looking to refine your audio arsenal.

BN enjoys the music with Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm on-ear headphones or PreSonus Eris E3.5 studio monitors mounted on risers for optimal sound. A Blue Yeti USB microphone helps it record clearly.

And to capture the sound, in addition to the microphone, BN uses a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface that he connects to his Novation LaunchKey Mini Mk III MIDI controller. It’s a mini keyboard with electronic drum sounds and more.

The mood lighting you see in the photo is courtesy of Philips Hue. There are several Philips Hue Play light bars, which are a popular choice for adding white and RGB lighting to a space.

But the other Philips Hue light, a Bloom table lamp, is new to us. It sits on the desk and takes up very little space, but it can display 16 million colors and sync media, like movies and music, when combined with a hub or sync-enabled accessory. .

dazzling wallpaper

And as for that dazzling wallpaper: “It’s a piece called ‘Drop it’ by Planttdaddii digital artist (used with permission from the artists),” BN said.
